Boat Safety at Port Tobacco Marina

‍Are you looking to rent or buy a boat? There are a few things to consider before safely renting and driving your boat at Port Tobacco Marina. Before you leave, make sure you have safety and emergency items with you to make sure your day on the water is safe. You will want to make sure you have a life jacket for everyone on board the boat. If you are under 13 you must always wear a life jacket. You also want to make sure you have visual distress signals & sound devices in case any emergencies happen with your boat. In case of any flames, you want to make sure you have a fire extinguisher and that it is fully charged.

‍ ‍

Driving your boat at a safe but, steady speed is important since the river does have some debris after storms or strong winds. You should have plenty of fuel to get to your destination. The rule of thumb is you want to keep one-third to get to where you are going, one-third to return, and one-third in the reserve. Before operating our boats, you must also be certified. You should have a NASBLA- approved Boater Education Card with you on the day of purchase or renting.

The rule of riding your boat with boater traffic is to stay on the right side when passing another boat. When you are in a “no-wake zone” you must reduce your speed within 100 feet of a vessel, pier, bridge, or swimmer. A “no wake zone” is a designated section where boaters are required to travel at a slower speed level. Please notify someone when you are leaving and when you plan to return. You will not be allowed to drive any boats while intoxicated. Please make sure you check the weather for the day to make sure you are keeping yourself safe from any potentially hazardous weather.
